I never noticed how many students chose Weber State University for university education until I graduated from high school in 2024. Weber State seems to be one of the universities that’s not mentioned much unless you are talking about the cheerleading team and its trophies from national competitions, its incredible volleyball team or how cheap education is here.
Being one of the closest universities to many high schools in Ogden, recent high school graduates could say they only go to Weber because it is close to home. However, in reality, it is one of the jewels of Ogden City. It beat the record of 32,400 students enrolled this fall, being the first time in the history of the university that it has had that many students, with about 1,400 students that started their first college semester.
This growth in enrollment demonstrates that Weber State is gaining more recognition and confidence among its students. Although some may undervalue the school, the reality is that it offers an accessible quality education with academic programs that prepare students for the career world. The university offers extracurricular activities and high-level sports, which makes the school even more attractive for those looking for a great university experience.
Another reason Weber State is an excellent university is its commitment to the local community. Being located in Ogden, the university has become a hub of development for the city, offering employment, volunteering opportunities, education and also growth opportunities for its citizens. Its impact on the economy and in the lives of the students is inevitable, which strengthens its value as a significant and relevant educational option.
Although many might consider Weber State to be a secondary option or one just for convenience, the university shows itself to be much more than that. Its growth, its impact on the community and the opportunities it offers to its students convert it into an institution that merits much more recognition and respect than it currently has.
