Former Weber State student Joseph Langford began a 30-day jail sentence Tuesday evening.
Langford pleaded guilty to one count of burglary in September. The charges stemmed from a break-in at the Weber State University’s College of Science in April.
According to a police report, Langford broke into the building after hours and took pictures of tests with his phone. Langford was also able to get access to the system, putting student and faculty private information at risk.
Judge Scott Hadley suspended a prison sentence of zero to five years Monday and sentenced Langford to 30 days in jail with work release and 36 months of probation. Hadley gave Langford until Tuesday at 5 p.m. to report to the Weber County Jail.
According to a deal between Langford’s attorneys and Weber county prosecutors, upon successful completion of probation, the state will not object to the charge being moved down to a misdemeanor.
Langford’s attorney must file the request with the court once the probation is successfully completed.
