Men's basketball hires two new coaches

Randy Rahe, the Weber State University men’s basketball’s head coach, has announced two new additions to his staff. Keith Berard will be the new assistant coach and Kadin Kirk will be the new director of basketball operations.

Berard will focus on all areas of coaching, including assisting with recruiting, development and game preparations, as well as helping the athletes with their academics. Before coming to WSU, Berard spent five seasons as an assistant at Houston Baptist University and Texas Southern University, where he helped coach a team to a Southwestern Athletic Conference title in 2003 and a trip to the NCAA Tournament.

Berard was a two-year starter at Southern Utah University in 1993-95. While there, he earned a bachelor’s degree in communications and briefly played professional basketball in Switzerland.

“We are really excited for Keith to join our staff, and he will be a great addition for us,” Rahe said. “He is an extremely hard worker and fits in with our staff very well. He has a great deal of experience in recruiting and has been involved in every area of the program in places he has been. His experience will be very valuable for our program.”

Kirk played two seasons of basketball at Texas-Lutheran University in 2005-07. He then was a student assistant coach at Northern Arizona University of the Big Sky Conference. Kirk will assist in the areas of scheduling and travel.

Kirk earned a bachelor’s degree in parks and recreation management with an emphasis in Spanish from NAU in 2010.

“We are pleased to move Kadin into the basketball operations director position,” Rahe said. “He did a terrific job in helping us last year and will continue to do so. He has a tremendous work ethic and will help our program in a lot of areas.”
