Slidin’ into the semi-finals

As women’s soccer moves into the Big Sky Championships, six Wildcats received recognition in the Big Sky’s Postseason All-Conference Awards on Nov. 1.

Freshman Morgan Furmaniak was dubbed as Top Newcomer of the Year after collecting six goals for the Wildcats and was third in assists amongst the conference at .444.

“It’s surprising. There’s a lot of candidates that go into it,” Furmaniak said. “It’s kind of motivating to know that I earned it, and I am just gonna keep working.”

Furmaniak started in 14 of the 16 games the ‘Cats have played thus far for a total of 889 minutes.

Looking back on her six goals of the season, Furmaniak said her favorite goal was an assist to Yira Yoggerst in the 53rd minute against the University of Idaho Vandals on Sept. 24. The Wildcats won that game 2–1.

Sadie Newsom was named to the All-Conference First team. The senior midfielder collected an All-Big Sky Honorable Mention in 2018 and a 2020 Big Sky All-Conference Second Team.

Taylor Slack and Olivia Tucker were both named to the All-Conference Second Team.

Slack previously received a Big Sky All-Conference Honorable Mention in 2019.

Hailey Price and Mekell Moss were dubbed as All-Conference Honorable Mentions. Price was named the 2020 Newcomer of the Year.

“I think it’s well deserved, because all those people work extra hard, and not one of those awards is not well deserved because of how hard they work, like, on the field, off the field,” Furmaniak said. “We all just want to work better and keep advancing.”

The No. 4 Wildcats took on the No. 5 Idaho Vandals on Nov. 3 in the opening round of the Big Sky Championships and won 3–0.
