As graduation approaches at Weber State University, seniors are preparing to don their black and purple regalia for one final celebration. However, on April 25, the stage will showcase more colors than just those traditional wildcat hues. Graduating students flicker an array of colors, yet many are unaware of what these colors mean.
From fashion to symbolizing religious devotion, wearing tassels has always held a special place in culture. In academia, tassels are a badge of accomplishment and status and carry with them long traditions.
Moving the tassel from one side of the cap to the other has become a time-honored tradition, marking the transition from undergrad to graduate. The following tassel colors represent these areas of study:
