The BassMint Pros are a local music group from Ogden that combines rock, hip-hop and everything in between. To promote their new album, which will be released on Halloween night at local bar Brewskis, they held a CD pre-release party at Graywhale in Riverdale on October 23 and gave away free merchandise.

The group is passionate about supporting local artists in the Ogden community. They pay for studio time for local artists when they’re involved with events like the high school versions of Battle of the Bands, and they recently built a recording studio for the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.

Press Manager Jared Christensen said the group keeps creativity in the community by allowing themselves to be inspired by other local artists.

While the group has some discontent with the music industry, they do like how accessible it is to make music without a label or recording contract. The group says their journey began when two of BassMint’s members met at a church in Panguitch, Utah. The two were significantly influenced by another artist, MC FrostBite.

“If there’s anything he taught me, it’s self respect,” said new member of the band BJ Parker.

The group’s musical influences go across every music genre, from Tupac Shakur to The Beatles and even jazz musicians of the past. These are the music styles and influences the group tries to reflect and convey in their songs while making it their own sound.

“It’s fun and really cool working with people with the same musical aspirations as myself. It’s awesome, and I’m excited,” Parker said.

They are very interactive with their fans and very approachable as well. They go out into the crowds after their shows are done, participate with them and hangout with the fans.

The band does private performances for their fans, as well as endorsing fan art. “We do sketches, we interact with them by having them call in, and if they are like the 200th caller, they get free things like posters of shirts and CD’s,” said Christensen.

“It’s nice to have the mic out on the audience and have them actually know the hooks to our songs,” says original group member Beatnick da Diabolick

They have toured in Japan, across the U.S. from Boston to Memphis and everywhere in between.

“I just want to play Austin City Limits,” said Parker.

Diabolick said he would love to play in Madison Square Garden and in New Orleans in the French Quarter.

You can catch them live at Brewskis on Halloween night for a live concert and their newest album release.
