For years, Weber State University Career Services has worked to help students make good career choices and locate meaningful employment upon graduation.
Career Services hosts a variety of events that help WSU students grow and become prepared for their career path including workshops, employer visits and job fairs.
“We host events that are applicable to all majors,” said Alyssa Simmons, who helps organize events for Career Services. “We are a hidden gem on campus. We have been successful in helping students form networks and prepare for real-life jobs. It’s sad that more students don’t know about us.”
To help them prepare for job fairs and careers, students can attend Career Cafe. Held every Wednesday in the Career Library—Student Services Center room 230—from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Career Cafe covers a variety of topics, ranging from how to build a resume to how to use social media profiles like LinkedIn.
Employers come to the events held by Career Services looking to hire students. Google and Apple are just a few of the companies coming to job fairs at Weber State this year.
On Nov. 4, Career Services will team up with the College of Applied Science and Technology to host the second annual STEM Fair, a job fair that will specifically help students in technology-based major. In January, they will host their annual Career Fair.
These events will provide a great opportunity for employers to network and recruit students and graduates. Employers who hire Weber State students consistently comment about their level of preparedness and professionalism, as well as their great work ethic.
“We encourage all students and interns to come,” said EAST career adviser Karen Doutre. “A student needs to start developing their network and know who is hiring, what kind of internships are available. All Weber students are invited if they want to participate. It can make a big difference in their career opportunities.”
The STEM Fair will be held in the Shepherd Union Building Ballrooms on Nov. 4 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. while the Career Fair will be held Jan. 26 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., also in the Shepherd Union Ballrooms.
“Students from all majors graduating soon need to go,” said Brooke Steadman, who helps market and host events for the Career Center. “Students not graduating should go to start networking with people in their career path.”
