In the late 80’s action drama “Lethal Weapon,” a character by the name of Rodger Murtaugh played by Danny Glover is know for one famous quote.

“I’m too old for this shit.”

I am nearing my 25th birthday, and, with everything that is going on, I feel like I am at a point in my life where I can say in regard to the situation of the world right now, I am getting too old for this stuff.

Let’s take the race for president as an example. Republicans, do you actually want me to believe that the walking circus of a campaign that has been constructed for Donald Trump is what we need right now? That dog and pony show is the future of this nation? Give me a break.

Don’t start laughing, Democrats, because your side is no better. You have committee chair person Debbie Wasserman Schultz disavowed for tipping the scales in favor of Hillary Clinton, a presidential candidate who has broken the law and underhandedly risen to the nomination — and to add to that, she seems to have a desire to surround herself with yes men and people willing to defraud themselves to ensure her rise to power.

It’s a choice between two different crap sandwiches, and you all wanted this. Thanks.

But, that’s just the tip of the iceberg for me. The political landscape pales in comparison to the politically correct culture that is running rampant through the world right now.

The politically correct culture that we now live in is exhausting. I can’t turn my head and cough without finding someone new to offend. Whether it’s because I’m too white, too straight, too Christian or too male — it seems that I can’t make a soul happy in this modern world.

But here’s the thing; I have no reason to be sorry for that. Each person in this world is entitled to their own opinions. Just because you don’t agree with mine does not mean I am to be ostracized for them.

At the same time, I am not arrogant about my feelings or my stance on subjects. We are all adults here, and adults talk things out peacefully. Adults understand the differences and learn to live with them in harmony. There is no reason for anyone to go out and belittle others under the guise of social justice.

I will be honest though. I am an old fashioned soul. I still believe in honesty, hard work, living a thrifty life and, most important of all, trust. Of the attributes, trust is the most difficult one. For me, trust isn’t given. It has to be earned.

The world expects me to trust every soul on a whim, no matter what. I don’t fly that way. Look, I can respect your opinions and I will stand your personality flaws, but it takes more than that for me to trust you. Does that make me seem paranoid? Maybe. But I have been burned before on trusting too easily, and I won’t make that mistake again any time soon.

Just take a moment and slap yourself awake. We, as a society, are facing big problems, and we will not solve anything by bickering about them. We also won’t solve anything by exercising a false sense of superiority because of our beliefs. Just be good people, don’t hate and realize we are all suffering just the same. There is no need to make it any harder than it has to be.

Because in the end, aren’t we too old for this stuff?
