A Weber State University employee was charged with theft Wednesday after police say she stole hundreds of dollars.

A probable cause affidavit filed in Weber County’s 2nd District Court stated that Vickie Ann Andersen, 55, admitted to stealing $600-$700 while in a supervisory position with the Shepherd Union Building Information Desk. Anderson was charged with theft, a Class A misdemeanor. If convicted, she faces up to a year in jail and a $2,500 fine.

Her employment spans 20 years with WSU, and she is on unpaid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation and court hearings, which are scheduled for Monday with Judge Michael Lyon, said John Kowalewski, WSU’s director of media relations.

Andersen was arrested Tuesday morning and booked into the Weber County Jail. She was later released on a $10,000 bond.

The investigation began after WSU’s internal auditing department discovered irregularities in accounting procedures, Kowalewski said. The internal audit office asked police to investigate the irregularities earlier this week.

The Information Desk charges students for the Ed Pass and the Wildcard, and is also a hub for ticket sales to WSU events.

The Signpost unsuccessfully attempted to contact Andersen to interview her about the charge by visiting an address listed as hers on a court document.

Kowalewski, who has been at the university for 10 years, said he can’t remember another incident in which an employee was arrested and accused of stealing money from the university. However, he said an employee was fired after it was discovered the individual was purchasing a surplus of supplies for the Dumke College of Health Professions and selling them on eBay.
