Welcome to What’s App-ening, your weekly source for the latest and greatest in mobile apps.
As the end of the semester approaches, the time to look for new scholarships for the fall semester is now.
With millions of scholarships to sift through, it can be overwhelming, and it’s hard to know where to start. But searching for scholarships doesn’t have to be so painful.
Fastweb Scholarships is a scholarship-finding website and app that matches students with potential scholarships.
Since accounts can’t be created in the app, users will first need to use Fastweb’s website to create a free account.
From there, students will be asked to fill in their profiles with information about themselves, including GPA, ACT scores, activities with which they’re involved and major (or potential major), so the engine can match them with scholarships right for them.
Unfortunately, this is yet another feature that has not been integrated into the app. Selecting edit profile will redirect users to the website through their default web browsing app.
Once users have completed their profile, that is when they will be able to fully utilize the app.
The Fastweb app is certainly only a supplement to the website, but it’s still handy for users to have a current feed of the scholarships for which they qualify and the deadlines for each.
In the app, users can read the requirements for each of their matches and then determine whether or not they are interested applying for the scholarships.
If interested, users swipe the information to the right and select the star to have the scholarship sorted into a feed specifically for scholarships for which they intend to apply. If a user isn’t interested, they can swipe left and select the trash can icon.
Once a user has applied for a scholarship, they select the check mark next to it, and if they receive the scholarship, they can select the trophy icon.
The scholarship will still appear in the matches feed, but it will be filtered out of the interested feed.
Overall, I give Fastweb three out of five stars. It’s an easy-to-use, speedy supplement to the Fastweb website, but it doesn’t function as a stand-alone app.
Fastweb can be downloaded for free in the App Store, and the website is free to use, both on desktop and mobile device.
Thanks for reading, Wildcats, and until next Friday, you know What’s App-ening.
