Huntsman to speak at commencement

Former Utah Governor Jon M. Huntsman Jr. is scheduled to deliver the keynote address for this year’s commencement exercises for Weber State University’s spring 2013 graduation ceremony. Huntsman served as governor of Utah from 2005-09, and also as U.S. ambassador to China from 2009-11. Fan-Ya Lin, WSU piano sensation, is scheduled to be the student graduate speaker.

Spring 2013 will be WSU’s 141st commencement activity, and all commencement activities this year will take place on April 26.

In addition to delivering the keynote address, Huntsman will receive an honorary degree from WSU. Also receiving honorary degrees are Karen Lofgreen, Beverly Taylor Sorenson and Sid W. Foulger, D.C. businessman and WSU alumnus who donated $5 million to endow a new school of music last year.

Scheduled commencement activities also include the 2013 Brady Presidential Distinguished Professor Award being conferred on three WSU professors: English professor Hal Crimmel, physics professor Adam Johnston and business administration professor Shane Schvaneveldt.

In a press release on the commencement activities, WSU President Charles Wight said commencement is a most significant time for the university, and that he encourages everyone to support the event, looking forward to celebrating the success of WSU’s graduates.
