Recently, Weber State University honored some of Weber’s greatest athletes by inducting five new members into the Athletic Hall of Fame.

The 2017 inductees were former Olympian and WSU track star Lindsey Anderson, CEO of Black & Decker Nolan Archibald, tennis standout Eric Styrmoe, former Athletic Director Dutch Belnap and Jeff Smith, the late women’s golf coach.

“We have a rich athletic history here at Weber State,” Director of Athletic Communications Paul Grua said. “This is something that we, every year, do to honor those tremendous athletes and coaches that have come through Weber State.”

Anderson competed for the Wildcats from 2004–2007, winning six individual Big Sky Conference Championships in her time. She also received NCAA All-American honors twice as a Wildcat, all of which led to Anderson being ranked No. 9 on Big Sky’s all-time greatest female athletes.

Archibald played for the Weber State men’s basketball team for two years from 1966–1968. During his time, he led his team to their first NCAA tournament berth. After averaging 13.5 points and eight rebounds per game, Archibald received the honor of being named to Weber State’s 50th anniversary men’s basketball team.

Stymoe played tennis for the Wildcats from 1982–1984, when he was the Big Sky singles champions for two years. While competing at WSU, he earned all-conference honors and is currently ranked eighth in wins at Weber State.

Belnap served as Weber State’s Athletic Director twice. His first stent began in 1995 and lasted three years. During that time, Belnap’s biggest accomplishment was adding women’s soccer as a NCAA sport.

His second stent as AD came in 2004 when he led WSU athletics the Big Sky Presidents’ Cup Trophy. Belnap also severed as the radio and TV commentator for WSU men’s basketball games.

Smith, who passed away last year, coached the Wildcat golf team for 24 years. With multiple coach of the year awards, Smith led the women’s golf team to their first conference tournament in 2001.

The WSU Athletic Hall of Fame banquet was a star-studded event. The inductees and their families mingled with school President Chuck White, current Athletic Director Jerry Bovee and members of the Wildcat Club.

Each inductee had a chance to speak, telling stories of their past and thanking the people who helped them achieve this special recognition.

Anderson, who is the only Weber State athlete to ever compete in the Olympics, was quite shocked at her induction into the WSU Athletic Hall of Fame.

“It surprised me,” Anderson said. “I hoped it would happen at some point, so it’s been really cool that now is the time. I’m just happy and excited to be here. I didn’t know if it was going to be a few more years, but I’m just happy to be here now. I feel so honored.”
