Break out the barbed wire and ready the thumbtacks because Mrs. Foley’s baby boy is coming to town. On Jan. 15, Ogden’s Wiseguys comedy club welcomes WWE hall of famer, Mick Foley. This special event will feature show times at 7 and 9 p.m. Admission is $25.
Affectionately known as the hardcore legend, Mankind, Mick Foley has made his living as one of professional wrestling’s most extreme performers. As a WWE wrestler, Foley is infamous for his high-risk wrestling style. After enduring a lifetime of dangerous spots in the ring, Foley now spends his days recounting the tales of his wrestling past with his show, “Fifty years of Foley.”
During a recent WWE Network special, Mick Foley described his one man show saying, “It’s not a comedy show … I don’t know what to call it. In a sense, I’m asking [the audience] to bear witness to Professor Foley’s doctoral thesis.” Foley’s show may not be a traditional standup comedy act, but his tongue-in-cheek sincerity is evident. His comedic charm still bleeds through.
Former WWE creative writer Kevin Eck praised Foley’s show saying, “I could listen to Mick tell humorous stories all night long, and I think most wrestling fans would feel the same way. But the cool thing about Mick’s act is that even if you’re not a huge wrestling fan, I think you’ll be entertained.”
Over the past four years, the master of the Mandible Claw has taken his one man show all around the globe. However, his show in Ogden, Utah could be one of his final performances for a while. Foley recently took to social media to express his exhaustion with touring and its effect on his body.
“I have truly enjoyed travelling the U.S. and parts of the world telling stories from my wrestling career over the past several years,” Foley said. “I’ve finally decided to listen to the experts who have been telling me that I need to slow down, and stop logging so many miles in the car and the airplane.”
Despite winding down his touring schedule, Foley is still planning to give his fans their money’s worth. After each show, Foley will be conducting a Q&A with the fans, as well as an individual meet and greet. Foley will also be performing his show the following night on Jan. 16 at 7 and 9 p.m. at Wiseguys comedy club in Salt Lake City.
