Women’s Cross Country
The entire women’s cross country team are this week’s Signpost Student Athletes of the Week for their performance at the Big Sky Conference Championship meet in Cedar City, UT.
Overall the team preformed well, with six of the runners from the team placing in the top 20 in the competition. Junior Ellie Child was the top finisher for the team, placing second with a time of 17:55.9. Junior Hailey Whetten finished fourth with a time of 18:08.1 and senior Jamie Stokes finished seventh with a time of 18:21.8. For their efforts, all three have received All-Conference Honors.
Sophomore Paige Dilmore, freshman MarLee Mitchell and sophomore Alice Keller rounded off the runners in the top 20 finishing 11th, 15th and 17th respectively. The score of the top five placers from the team were combined to give the team a score of 39, putting them in first—31 points ahead of second place finisher Eastern Washington University.
The win helped the women’s team move up to rank 25th in the nation, up two spots from their prior ranking. The team will run again on Nov. 13 in the NCAA Rocky Mountain Regional meet in Albuquerque, N.M., followed by the NCAA Championship meet in Louisville, Ky. on Nov. 21.
