Fall is one of the best times of year, mostly because it is not too hot and not too cold. With a light jacket, you are good to go enjoy the outdoors. Being here in Utah, we have plenty to do around this time of year—any time of year actually. Here are a few of those things you can do.
Hiking: Being this close to the mountains, we have the luxury of accessing a lot of hiking trails. Grab a jacket, and head out on a warm Saturday afternoon with some friends, and experience fall colors up close and personal. One of the more popular trails people walk is Waterfall Canyon, and you can access this at the 29th Street Trailhead, the top of 29th Street next to the mountain.
Cruising: As long as the snow has not hit yet—and even if it has—cruising is a great alternative to enjoying the fall colors up close if you feel more like having a relaxing experience. A great drive is along 12th Street into the canyon and around Pineview Reservoir. When you get to the dam, it is your choice; turn or go straight, either way will eventually loop back around.
Okay, so maybe outside fall colors aren’t your thing. How about some arts and crafts? You can do arts and crafts all year round, and many places certainly focus on this time of season.
Painting: Go check out Liquid Canvas, located at 290 East Historic 25th Street. They have regular painting classes and serve refreshments during that time. Get in and book a time for you and your friends. If not Liquid Canvas, countless other places from here to Salt Lake City do similar activities.
Craft stores: If you are looking to do some do-it-yourself arts and crafts, there are stores such as Michaels, Hobby Lobby and Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft, all of which carry a variety of arts and crafts supplies for seasonal activities.
What about some local activities? Maybe you’re not into the arts and crafts and don’t care to go driving, but you still want to enjoy some fall activities.
Pumpkin walk: Several cities in the area are now doing pumpkin walks where pumpkins are carved and donated to be placed along a walking path for the community to complement seasonal activities, live shows and a variety of food vendors.
Corn mazes: There are several in the area, but here are a few. The Corn Maize, located at 2801 South 3500 West, Ogden; Black Island Farm, located at 3178 S 3000 W, Syracuse; and Cold Springs Trout Farm located at 2284 North Fruitland Dr., North Ogden. How about just staying in with your friends and family? Take a walk down Historic 25th Street, and enjoy a nice meal and check out some of the local bars. With autumn here, see what specials they have in season. Right now, The Lighthouse Lounge has Pumpkin Ale served in a glass rimmed with cinnamon sugar.
Especially in Ogden, there’s no excuse not to soak up autumn flavor.
