Time management is the key to being successful in college. However, it is also one of the hardest things to master.
The tricky thing about time is that once it’s gone, nobody can get it back. Check out these tips to ensure that you are getting the most out of your time.
Use a planner
I know this one might seem old fashioned, but using a planner is a great way to map out everything you need to get done in a day.
With the numerous devices we have, you can make your planner digital and have it with you everywhere you go.
Map your days out
Take a 10 to 15 minutes every day to create a to-do list and map out exactly how you are going to spend your time that day. Schedule in things like driving time, time to eat, time to take small breaks and of course, time for work, classes and studies.
Once you have mapped everything out, it can help you stay motivated to complete everything on your to-do list.
Discipline yourself
This one can be really hard, but it is crucial for time management. Scheduling rewards into your day can help you stay motivated and disciplined.
For example, say you’re reading a book that you can’t put down, but you also have a math assignment due at midnight.
Discipline yourself to get the math assignment done, and then reward yourself with reading a few chapters in the book before moving on to other things you need to get done.
Get enough sleep
Another extremely crucial part of getting the most out of your time is setting a sleep schedule and sticking to it. When you feel tired or groggy, it’s hard to feel motivated to get things done.
Turn off electronics an hour before you fall asleep, and do something relaxing, like reading or taking a warm bath to help yourself wind down. This will ensure that you get the most out of your sleep time, which will in turn help you get the most out of your awake time.
Time management can be the difference between a successful student and a student that is struggling in school. Follow these tips and you’re sure to get the most out of every day.
