The Weber State volleyball team split its home stand over the weekend, falling hard Friday night to the North Dakota Buffalos in three straight sets (25-11, 25-10, 25-17), but coming away victorious on Saturday with a four-set win against Northern Colorado (14-25, 25-20, 25-23, 25-23).

North Dakota came out strong on Friday night, winning the first two sets and shutting down any hopes for a win from the Wildcats.

Audrey Biggs, outside hitter, had a hard time getting into a rhythm. She didn’t have her first kill until the fifth point of the the first set.

“They came out pretty hard in the first two matches. That’s a really hard team that we played,” Biggs said..

North Dakota is the number one team currently in the Big Sky conference, improving to 5-0 with the win over the Wildcats.

Though the Wildcats didn’t win a set they still kept their heads held high and kept North Dakota on their toes. Especially in the last set of the match with a final score of 25-17.

“That team played flawlessly and were tougher than we thought they would be,” said WSU head coach Tom Peterson. “They are a really athletic team and just kept the ball alive so many different times. They frustrated us into a lot of errors that we shouldn’t have been making. But I am really happy with how the team responded in the third set.”

Biggs lead the Wildcats with 12 kills on 34 attempts, while Amanda Varley had four kills. Taylor Christensen was held to a season-low 18 assists. McKay Tarbox had a team-high 10 digs and Thamires Cavalcanti had six digs of her own.

Coming off of the loss, the Wildcats returned to the Swenson Gym to take on the Northern Colorado Bears on Saturday night. Coming out of the match with the win the Wildcats took the match in four games (14-25, 25-20, 25-23, 25-23).

“It’s so nice to finally get a win at home in front of the crowd,” said Biggs. “We absolutely love our crowd. They fill this gym and are loud. No matter if we’re up or down they’re always here for us and we’re so happy they were here for a win.”

Biggs had a total of 21 kills and 12 digs to give her a double-double on the night. With a total of eight blocks, middle blocker Audrey Hunter had nearly as many as the entire Northern Colorado team combined (9) during the match. McKay Tarbox had a total of 24 digs in the end.

“It was fun tonight. It was a disappointing first game and then putting three games together was something that’s very, very satisfying,” Peterson said. “It wasn’t just the winning but I thought we played fairly consistent for next three whole games and that’s something we have to do. It’s an important match for us to win.”

The Wildcats (5-14, 2-4 conference) play their next game in Orem on Tuesday as they go up against Utah Valley University in a non-conference match. They will then return home for their next two games, hosting Northern Arizona (14-3, 5-1 conference) on Thursday and Southern Utah (10-7, 3-3 conference) on Friday.
