The Weber State volleyball team kicked off its season on the road at the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawk’s Holiday Hullabaloo tournament on Friday, coming away with a 2-2 record.
They opened up the tournament play against host UMES. The Wildcats dropped the first set 23-25 to the Hawks, but rallied back to win the next three sets 25-18, 25-19 and 25-21 and won their first match of the season
Senior Audrey Biggs and sophomore Ciera Borho put up big numbers against the Hawks. Borho matched a career-high with 14 kills and hit .379 while Biggs added 13 kills and six blocks.
The Wildcats took on the South Dakota State University Jackrabbits in their second match of the day. After taking an early lead in the first set, the Wildcats came up short as the Jackrabbits swept Weber State in three sets 22-25, 16-25, 18-25.
Biggs led the team with a match-high 12 kills, but the team had 12 service errors as the Wildcats hit a season low .052.
Day two was very similar to day one as the Wildcats once again split the two games in the final day of the tournament. Game one saw the Wildcats defeat Fairleigh Dickinson in four sets 25-15, 25-15, 20-25 ,25-11.
Against the Knights, Biggs did what she does best as she set a new career-high with 21 kills while hitting .432.
The Wildcats wrapped up the tournament with a hard-fought battle, but came up short in five sets against Maryland-Baltimore Country, as the Retrievers came away with the win 21-25, 25-19, 25-20, 18-25, 15-11.
Senior outside hitter Biggs was selected to the All-Tournament team after an outstanding performance over four games, as she recorded 61 kills, 15 digs and 12 blocks.
The Air Force Invitational is next up for the Wildcats, beginning on Sept. 5.
