The Big Sky Conference will be getting a new logo, which will be fully in effect for the 2013-14 season.
The announcement came Monday at the Big Sky Summer Kickoff event held in Park City, Utah. It will be the first time the conference has rebranded itself in 49 years. The new logo will be in place for the Big Sky’s 50th anniversary and the 25th anniversary of women’s sports in the conference.
The new logo, which features the words “Big Sky” above the outline of mountains, will be altered to fit the colors of each Big Sky school’s uniform. At the unveiling on Monday, conference commissioner Doug Fullerton said he wants each team to feel as if it owns the logo, since it will be adopted into their school colors. The new logo will appear on uniforms, fields and playing courts.
The Big Sky recently added four new teams. Southern Utah University and the University of North Dakota are joining the conference as full members, while California Polytechnic University and the University of California Davis’ football teams recently joined the Big Sky Conference.
The conference now has 11 full members and two affiliate members, spanning across nine states in the western United States. Teams in the conference participate in 15 sports.
