The Weber State University football team had its second full scrimmage of the spring on Saturday morning.

Head Coach John L. Smith said he was happy with the offensive performance during the scrimmage.

“Offensively I liked how we were able to move the ball, and there were some things we can build on from today,” Smith said. “As is always the case, there is still work that needs to be done.”

CJ Tuckett had a strong game for WSU, scoring three rushing touchdowns and finishing with 117 yards. Tuckett broke through for the first touchdown of the scrimmage with a 55-yard run

WSU’s rushing game was strong in the scrimmage. Barrinton Collins rushed for 92 yards, including a 22-yard touchdown. Josh Booker also had a touchdown and 88 yards.

Tuckett said the team has played well in the spring and is looking forward to the start of the season.

WSU’s running back crew also combined for more than 100 yards receiving.

“We have had a good session of spring ball and hope to carry some of the momentum over to the fall,” Tuckett said.

Jordan Adamczyk was in control as quarterback while Mike Hoke is sidelined following a shoulder surgery. Adamczyk finished with 343 yards and one touchdown. Adamczyk threw for 343 yards on 22-34 passing.

Xavian Johnson led the receivers with three catches for 76 yards.

Trevor Pletcher led the defensive side with three sacks in the scrimmage.

Smith said he was happy with the way the team performed offensively but said the team still has things to work on.

“There were some improvements today,” Smith said, “but we still need to clean up some things.”

WSU will have two more practices this week and will wrap up spring practice with the annual Purple and White game on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Stewart Stadium. Before the game, a meeting will be held at 4:30 p.m. where fans will have a chance to hear from Smith and the new WSU coaching staff.
