The Weber State University tennis team played its first indoor match of the season and fell to Brigham Young University 7-0.

David Hintze fell in the first match to Spencer Smith, a junior from BYU. Smith won the match easily, winning the first set 6-1 and the second set 6-0.

WSU’s Simon Unger took the lead early on in his match against Gregory Batrakov. Despite Unger’s early lead, he was unable to maintain his momentum and fell 6-2, 6-0.

Peter Ramstromer Pello came close to winning a set for WSU in his match against Keaton Cullimore. Ramstromer Pello dropped the first set 6-2 and played tough in the second set, but fell 6-4.

Ben Rode turned in a solid performance for WSU in his match against Travis Filmore. Rode convincingly won the first set 6-2. Filmore fought back in the second set and tied the match with a 6-2 victory in the second set. In the tiebreaker, Filmore pulled out a close win with 13-11.

In doubles play, WSU was able to get a win. The team of Unger and Oliver Good knocked off the BYU pairing of Batrakov and Patrick Kawka.

WSU will be in action again this weekend when they take on the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. The Wildcats won’t play their first home match till Feb. 25, when they host Montana State University.
