Football Jam
On Aug. 6, at around 2 p.m., Weber State University Police Department officers were dispatched to Stewart Stadium after six members of the football team got stuck in the first floor elevator. When emergency personnel arrived they took into account all six players and asked if they required medical attention while the elevator doors were working on being opened. Once the power switch for the elevator was located and the doors were opened, all six football players were able to leave the elevator, none requiring medical attention.
Intoxication
On Aug. 10, a little after 3 a.m., officers spotted an individual with no shoes walking through sprinklers when they were conducting a premise check on the Community Center. When officers noticed that the individual was swaying as they were walking, the officers stopped them. After speaking with the individual, officers were able to determine that the individual was intoxicated. The individual was able to call a family member, who did come to pick them up.
Smoke at Dee Events
On Aug. 13, there was a report made to dispatch about a structure fire at Dee Events Center. Earlier that day, there had been a quite significant natural gas leak, which did prompt multiple officers to respond to this call. When officers arrived, there was no fire at the Dee Events Center. While there was smoke above it, the smoke was determined to be from a fire in North Ogden, which looked like it was coming from Dee Events Center.
Possible Stalking
On Aug. 19, at approximately 1:30 p.m., WSU officers were dispatched to the University Village Community Center when a WSU student reported that they had been followed to their apartment building. After the student had parked their car, an unknown individual followed them in a vehicle, and called the student vulgar names and insults. The student was able to make it to their building, and did let officers know that they were safe. The student and surrounding cameras on the buildings were unable to get a name or license plate number of the unknown vehicle, which resulted in the case being closed by responding officers.
Badger Spotting
On Aug. 21, near 1 p.m., an officer was dispatched to the OGX route behind the softball field next to Dee Events Center, where there was a report of a badger spotted digging in the rocks. The officer, who was concerned for the safety and welfare of the animal, called the Department of Natural Resources. The officer was able to locate where the badger had been digging, which was in the rockwall near the scoreboard. The officer spent almost an hour in the area, but once learning the DNR was not on the way, and having not spotted the badger, the case was closed.
