The Weber State University women’s tennis team has been busy over the past two weeks.
The Wildcats invited Portland State and Nevada to their home courts in Ogden where the teams squared off on March 4 and 5.
The Wildcats were looking for their first win of the season against Portland State, who were also winless at the time. Before that matchup, the Wildcats had a 0–7 record on the season.
The doubles competition point went to the Vikings as they dispatched the Weber State duos.
During the singles matches, however, the Wildcats stepped up and won four of their six matchups. Those wins came from freshman Tereza Pilzova, sophomore Catlin Herb, sophomore Morgan Dickason and junior Dominique Beauvais.
With those singles wins, the Wildcats solidified their first team victory of the season over Portland State with a final score of 4–3.
With Nevada in town the next day, the Wildcats had a big matchup ahead of them. The day started strong for the Wildcats as they won two of their doubles matches, giving Weber State the doubles point for the day.
The singles matches were a different story. The Wildcats only won one of their six singles matches.
The lone singles match win was delivered by junior Devi Hasan, who defeated her opponent 6–3 in the first set. She finished off the match, taking the victory in the second set with a 6–2 final score.
In the end, the Wolfpack took down the Wildcats 5–2, placing the season record for the ’Cats at 1–8.
After the split weekend, the women’s tennis team went on the road to California for warm weather and challenging tennis.
On March 17, the Wildcats made their first stop of the weekend, a hard-fought matchup against UC Davis. The Wildcats failed to score a single match point throughout the day and ended up losing 7-0 to the Aggies.
Hasan put up the biggest fight for Weber State, as she was the only player to go to a third set in the day.
Trying to get their match with UC Davis behind them, the Wildcats headed north to face the Sacramento State Hornets.
During the doubles matches, Herb and Pilzova dominated their opponents from Sacramento State by a score of 6–3.
However, the Wildcats came up short against the Hornets in both of the other doubles matches.
The singles matches turned out to be just as tough for the Weber State women. Once again, Hasan ended up taking the lone win for the Wildcats.
In the end, neither Pilzova nor Beauvais actually ended finishing their matches. Therefore, Sacramento State won the day with a 4–1 final score.
The Wildcats hope to pick up at least their second win of the season as they travel to Salt Lake City to face the University of Utah on March 26, and then on March 31, they will take on Idaho State University in Pocatello.
