Weber State’s very own chapter of Public Relations Society of America will be holding a food truck rally to raise money and awareness for their organization on Sept. 24.
Students often think that public relations is only for those who are going into PR or business, but it can apply to almost anyone in any field.
“PR can help everybody in every situation,” Thais Stewart, president of PRSSA, said of students who might not feel like public relations applies to their major. “Every single company uses PR, and if they don’t, they should. Anyone who looks to go into medicine, anyone who wants to be a police officer, anyone who really wants to be anything, they should present themselves in a way that makes them desirable to the company they may work for, and PR helps you do that.”
A worry when students consider public relations is that they believe that an organization like PRSSA is all business and no fun, but this fundraiser aims to show the relaxed nature of public relations through the use of food trucks.
The food truck rally provides all students with an opportunity to come out and learn a bit more about PRSSA and how it can benefit them, while giving them a place to eat food they typically wouldn’t find on campus.
“Food trucks are very casual and become a hangout,” Stewart said. “We want to present this fundraiser and our group as relaxed even though it is a true professional organization. People tend to think of us as ‘Oh, you wear suits, and you’re snobby people,’ but we are really relaxed and love to be part of Weber State to just hang out and have fun.”
The event will have much more than just food trucks to offer. Intended to be family friendly, PRSSA will have face painting, yard sale items, balloon animals and music provided by KWCR.
“These activities are for a fundraiser,” said Stewart, “And we are trying to raise funds to make a bigger impact here on campus. When it comes to the food trucks, most do accept card or cash, but when it comes to the face painting, yard sale or balloon animals, we can only accept cash. Everything raised will go to helping us really make a difference on campus.”
The food trucks participating in the event include Leila’s Luau, Feedback-Gourmet Grilled Cheese, Wingin’ It, Waffle Wagon and Fiiz Drinks.
