WSU Police Academy signs training partnership with HAFB
In order to help the continued growth of the program, WSU’s Law Enforcement Academy signed a public/private partnership agreement with Hill Air Force Base providing access for academy cadets to facilities on base.
The agreement, which has been two years in the making, allows cadets enrolled in the academy to utilize facilities in their training scenarios. This scenarios, which are varied, will help law enforcement officers prepare for moments such as building searches, domestic violence calls and responding to crimes in progress. The agreement was signed into effect by vice provost and Dean of Continuing Education Bruce Davis and Col. Ronald Jolly, 75th Air Base Wing commander.
“This is a win, win for both Weber State University and Hill Air Force Base,” Jolly said in a statement. “Partnering with the university allows their students to receive more training and to be better prepared as future law enforcement officers.”
Recently, the Law Enforcement Academy moved into the WSU Center for Continuing Education in Clearfield and has been working hard to help provide quality training for cadets in the Ogden area. The academy works as a satellite campus for the Utah Peace Officer Standards and Training Academy and offers three different certification tracks for cadets: Special Functions Officer, Basic Corrections Officer and Law Enforcement Officer.
“We are proud of our long association with Hill Air Force Base and appreciate the many contributions the U.S. Air Force makes in defending our nation and strengthening our community,” Davis said in a statement. “This partnership marks an important milestone in our ongoing relationship and will result in cost savings and greater efficiencies for both Hill Air Force Base and Weber State University.”
WSU tax program opens new center
The John B. Goddard School of Business & Economics at Weber State University have created a new Center for Tax Education and research. The center will focus on helping students, citizens and the legal and business community sort through the different tax laws they might face.
The new center comes off of the recent national recognition, as it has one of the only nationally accredited Master of Taxation programs in the state, as well as being in the top 40 most affordable programs in the nation.
“WSU’s Master of Taxation program also helps students augment their income to well above the national average for associated degrees (i.e., accounting, marketing, IT management), and post-grad salaries often start $52,000 a year or more,” as said in a review by the Online Accounting Degree Programs. “Along with unbelievably low tuition rates, this makes WSU an indisputable leader in best value graduate taxation programs.”
Some of the many services that the center will provide include executive tax education for accountants, lawyers and entrepreneurs, work with employers to employ Mtax graduates, promote research and education activities by faculty and conduct a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program for qualifying low income community members.
