Over the break, the Weber State Men’s Basketball Team dominated the court, including their first two Big Sky Conference games against Idaho State University and University of North Dakota.
Fri, Dec. 18th, Weber took on Portland for their fourth straight road game. The game was tied with eight seconds remaining when Junior Jeremy Senglin sent the game into overtime with a 3 pointer. The ‘Cats beat out Portland with a final of 92-82, breaking their 3 game losing streak. Sophomore Ryan Richardson had a season high of 18 points against the Pilots.
Tues, Dec. 22nd, the ‘Cats were back at home against South Dakota State. Although they only led by two points at the half, WSU came out and got the win 99-95 over South Dakota State. Junior Kyndahl Hill had a career high of 21 points; Hill was a perfect 7 for 7 from the free through line against the Jackrabbits.
Mon, Dec. 28th, Weber took on Multnomah at home. A final score of 114-47 broke a Weber State record of having 19 three pointers made during the game. Weber never let their lead slip and shot 63 percent from the field. Freshman Cody John earned his career high of 12 points and 5 assists. Freshman Juwan Williams also shot a career high of 14 points that added to the WSU win over Multnomah.
Sat, Jan. 2nd, Weber opened their first Big Sky Conference game against Idaho State University. After a 3 game winning streak against non-conference teams, Weber was hoping to get their first win in the conference. A 77-54 win over ISU allowed Weber to obtain a 1-0 start in the Big Sky Conference. Another game where Weber never trailed their opponent and had at least an 11 point lead continuously. WSU held ISU to just one three pointer in the entire game. Head Coach Randy Rahe lead the team to his 191st win out of his 300 games and 10 seasons coached at WSU.
Thurs, Jan. 7th, Weber State took on North Dakota for their fourth home game in a row, and their second Big Sky Conference game. After a tough battle on the court, the ‘Cats came out on top beating UND 74-62, putting them 10-5 in the overall season, and 2-0 in the Big Sky Conference. Although the Wildcats maintained their lead, the ‘Hawks came within 6 points of stealing that lead. “It starts and ends on defense. Everything we do is based on our defense and thats what wins games,” said Senior Joel Bolomboy who had his career high of 23 rebounds and his 14th double-double in 15 games. Coach Rahe concluded the post game press conference by adding “Any league win is a good win, no matter if it’s a little bit ugly or not. We take them and try to get better and learn from it.”
The Wildcats host North Colorado on Sat, Jan. 9th at the Dee Events Center, then back on the road again against Northern Arizona on Thurs, Jan. 28th.
