Weber State University men’s tennis player Dylan Hansel is this week’s Signpost Student-Athlete of the Week after winning all three of his matches he appeared in against Colorado Mesa University and Air Force.
“I thought I played really well against Mesa and Air Force,” Hansel said. “I got wins, and that’s really what it comes down to is getting wins.”
Hansel picked up his first singles match win on Saturday when he defeated Mavericks freshman Ben Schlichting in the No. 5 match 7-6, 6-3. Sophomore Scott Hintze teamed up with Hansel in the No. 3 doubles match as the duo defeated Ben Schlichting and Duncan Alger 7-5.
On Sunday, Hansel picked up his third win in his longest match of the season against Air Force. In the No. 6 singles match, Hansel went up against sophomore Dillon Launius where he defeated Launius in three sets (7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 6-3).
Hansel was also honored earlier this week as he was named the Big Sky Conference men’s tennis Player of the Week for his performances.
“That was awesome. I’ve been here four years and that’s the crowning achievement of my career here so far,” Hansel said. “It was really nice to get recognized.”
Hansel and the Wildcats (1-3) will remain at home this weekend, as they host University of Missouri-Kansas City (2-0) and University of Nebraska-Omaha (1-2) in a doubleheader matchup on Saturday.
“I feel really confident,” Hansel said about the team’s upcoming games. “We’re all playing well, hitting the ball really nice. So hopefully we can go out and get a couple wins this weekend.”
