The Weber State University women’s basketball team came up short in its attempt to extend their winning streak to four games on Saturday as they fell to Sacramento State 108-65.

After the Wildcats took an 11-7 lead to start the game, the Hornets and the Wildcats stayed within two points of each other before Sacramento State jumped out to a 12 point lead 10 minutes into the game. Sacramento State increased its lead to 18 points before halftime, and the Hornets never looked back as they outscored Weber State 55-30 in the second half to come away with the win.

Turnovers were the key to the Wildcats’ loss as they had 27 turnovers to the Hornets’ 12. The Wildcats’ 27 turnovers tied the season-high that they set in the loss to San Diego earlier this season. The Hornets took advantage of the turnovers as they scored 37 of their 108 points off turnovers.

Juniors Jalen Carpenter and Regina Okoye were the only Wildcats to score double-digit points in the loss with Carpenter leading the team with 14 points. Carpenter also pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the year. Okoye finished the game with 11 points but was also second on the team with six turnovers. Okoye was held to only two steals against the Hornets as it was just the second time in conference play she was held to fewer than four steals.

The Wildcats (8-11, 3-5 conference) return home on Thursday as they host North Dakota (13-6, 5-2) at 7 p.m. Weber State then hosts Northern Colorado (10-8, 4-3) on Saturday at 2 p.m.
