What better way to start out spring semester than with WSUSA’s annual ’80s Neon Dance on Jan. 16? The ’80s is a great era to step into for an evening and let your neon styles shine bright. Here are some fun ideas and items to look for when creating your ’80s dance attire.
The exercise queen: The ’80s was all about jazzercising and working up a sweat. For this look, think bright neon spandex, and complete it with some leg warmers and a sweat band. Voila! You are ready to be featured in an upcoming aerobics video.
The “totally” ’80s chick: Usually the go-to for ’80s costumes, the ’80s chick wore tutus, leggings, loose tops and big, bright jewelry.
The Madonna doll: No one was a bigger superstar than Madonna in the ’80s. She refined the punk/gothic look with lace and pearls. You can start with a black dress, then add printed leggings and a huge goth/pearl piece of jewelry.
The hip-hop jock: This look is for all the boys and it’s “easy money.” Get a brightly colored sweatshirt or something with patterns. Top if off with big, gold jewelry, and you’re ready to roll with Run-D.M.C.
Too cool for school dude: Don’t wash your hair. Don’t even shower for two days. Then put on an over-sized plaid shirt, washout jeans and combat boots. You’re good to go.
