The Shepherd Union atrium was filled with spectators on Thursday who got a taste of the culinary creations made by Weber State students, faculty and staff in Sodexo’s Meal Madness competition.
Four teams made up of three amateur chefs had 45 minutes to prepare a meal.
Competitors rushed to finish the desserts and main course in the amount of time given using special ingredients: white asparagus, mango chutney or Cheerios.
Sodexo had three judges to taste the food: two were chefs from Sodexo and the third was WSUSA President Joseph Favero.
Sodexo’s marketing intern Nick Phinney stated that the purpose of the Meal Madness competition is for customer satisfaction. “Here at Weber we do run all the food on campus, and we want to show the students that we really do care and we want to put on events that benefit them,” he said.
Tessa Diamond WSU senior on team Champion’s Club, said she was thrilled to be a part of Sodexo’s Meal Madness competition. “Each team has 15 minutes to look through all the ingredients to evaluate what we want to make, and once that time ran out, we started cooking,” she said.
For Diamond, the Meal Madness event made her top 10 events at Weber State.
Nick Phinney said that they want to try and host an Meal Madness competition at the end of every semester.
