The Weber State University community has expressed its love and support for newly hired assistant football coach Ted Stanley during a time of tragic loss for his family.

Stanley’s wife Jocelyn passed away on Monday, June 25 due to complications of child labor. Just four days before on June 21, the Stanley family welcomed their newest member, Emmerson, a baby girl, into the family while they were staying in Ohio. She is the first child born into the Stanley family.

Head Coach Jody Sears said the coaching staff and team reached out to Stanley and his family and expressed the love that the coaching staff has for him at this time.

“Our deepest thoughts, prayers and concerns are with Ted, Emmerson and their family at this time,” Sears said.

Sears continued that when something like this happens, it helps others realize what is really important in life.

“Events like this really put life in perspective. We will continue to pray and support Ted and his family throughout this process.”

WSU recently hired Stanley as an assistant football coach. His work includes serving as the tight end coach for the team.

Stanley joined the WSU football team after being employed as the head football coach at Kenyon College, a Division III school in Gambier, Ohio, for the past nine football seasons. More of Stanley’s professional highlights include work as an assistant coach at the University of Chicago, as well as Grinnell College in Iowa.

Stanley, a native of Salt Lake City, also served as the director of football operations of the University of Utah in 1996 and 1997.
