Weber State University men’s hockey team took the trip down to Orem, Utah, to go up against Utah Valley University and then Utah State University with one goal in mind: to win the Wasatch Cup for the third time in a row.

Weber State vs. Utah Valley

In the previous two meetings between these two schools, Weber State won by lopsided margins.

History repeated itself with Weber State putting three goals on the board to take a 3–0 lead after period one.

Deja vu occurred in the second period with Weber scoring three goals yet again. Utah Valley broke the deadlock and took away the opportunity for a shutout by Weber. The score at the end of two periods was 6–1.

The Wildcats went to the third period scoring as many goals as they had in the first two periods in the third period alone. They shut the door on a Wolverine comeback and punched their ticket to the championship game after a 12–1 victory for the Wildcats.

Weber State vs. Utah State

The championship was held at the Weber County Ice Sheet. The matchup between two bitter rivals: the Wildcats and Aggies. Weber had won the matchup each time this season. This game is one that you never know how it will end.

For the first period, both teams were testing each other’s wit. As Weber tends to do, they struck first with defenseman Collin Morrill putting it on himself to answer the call and ended the first period at 1–0 for the Wildcats.

Period two was similar to the first, with both teams challenging each other’s goalies until the Utah State keeper made a mistake, and Caden Hunter capitalized on it for a Weber State goal. Period two would end in a 2–0 win for Weber.

The third period was a frenzy of goals with both teams shooting the puck in the back of each other’s nets. Utah State scored two in the period, but Weber was able to score three times to keep the Wasatch Cup in Weber’s hands for the third straight year as the Wildcats claimed victory over the Aggies with a score of 5–2.
