38th annual Lindquist pops concert
On July 17, the 38th annual Lindquist Pops Concert will be held on the Ava Lindquist plaza next to the duck pond.
“The concert and fireworks program are a reminder to all of us of the lasting goodness of America,” said Steve Park, New American Philharmonic associate conductor, in a press release. “Regardless of our religious or political beliefs, we can all come together for an evening to enjoy a celebration of this great and free country.”
The concert, provided by the New American Philharmonic, begins at 9 p.m. and proceeds for 60 minutes through a patriotic program ending with the “1812 Overture,” combined with a 17 cannon battery. The firework portion of the program is then scheduled to begin directly following the concert.
The entire event is free, though space will be limited for the general viewing public. Parking on campus will be limited, and the major roundabouts at Harrison and Dixon Drive will be closed for the event and all access to campus will be through all other streets. To protect the grounds, all seat saving will be prohibited until after 6 pm.
Swenson Pool reopens after major repair
On July 5, the Swenson Pool reopened after being closed due to repairs from damage received during a major windstorm in May. The pool had been closed for repairs since the storm damage occurred.
“With the wind storm, a large glass window broke and spread glass throughout the natatorium, in the water and in the pool filter systems,” James Zagrodnik, director of the physical education program at the Swenson Gym complex said in an email to students back in May. “Upon cleaning the pool, its systems and pool area, we have had some issues with the pool liner itself. At this time we are not sure if the glass caused the pool liner issues or if something else is occurring; if the pool liner can be patched or needs to be fully replaced; and how long it will take to get fixed and usable again.”
The pool is now open again to the general public, with daily hours ranging from 6:30-8:30 a.m. and noon-2:30 p.m. Mondays-Fridays for lap swim and Saturdays from noon-3 p.m. All other fitness classes can be found on their online schedule at http://www.weber.edu/fitness/facilities.html.
