Students, staff and faculty were evacuated from the Shepherd Union Building around 3 p.m. on Jan. 25. As the fire alarm rang, students filed out into the cold wondering what happened. The alarm interrupted the Student Senate meeting that was going on in the Union Building on the fourth floor.
According to University Police Chief Mark LeBlanc, the alarm was set off by maintenance staff soldering in one of the electrical rooms.
Chief LeBlanc was about to speak with the Student Senate moments before the alarm went off, according to Student Body President Cash Knight.
“We called him up to speak to us and he had a presentation to give to senate tonight,” he said.
Knight also mentioned that he has never been in a fire drill during his time at Weber.
“Everyone was calm and organized, nobody got trampled or anything, so it was a good drill,” he said.
Everyone was allowed back into the building after a few minutes, no injuries were reported.
