It’s no secret that Ogden has a rich history and a wild past. Once the junction of the Union Pacific and Central Pacific railroads, the city is known for its history of gambling, murder, prostitution and Prohibition Era tunnels beneath Historic 25th Street.
As a result of its colorful past, Ogden is home to several spooky historical sites
Gray Cliff Lodge Restaurant
The Gray Cliff Lodge was first built in 1912 by Thomas Dee as a summer home, and it is now a full-time restaurant. Apparitions of Native Americans, children’s voices and self-closing doors and windows are rumored to be seen and heard.
Ben Lomond Hotel
The hotel was built in 1927 and is considered one of the grand hotels of Utah. It lacks a thirteenth floor because the builders were superstitious. There have been many murders and suicides at the hotel since the first building, The Reed Hotel, was constructed there in 1891. People who have stayed there often mention the haunted elevators that move of their own volition, physical apparitions of ghosts, disembodied voices and mysterious phone calls from empty rooms.
Union Station
The train station is said to be haunted by a woman in a blue dress. Legends say she was hit by a train when she went to retrieve her engagement ring after her fiance threw it on the train tracks. People claim to hear the sound of her wailing and see her dashing through the rail yard.
Ogden Cemetery
Stories say that a girl named Florence Grange was killed by a moving car while waiting for a ride near the cemetery. It is said that if you go to her grave and flash your car lights three times, she will appear as a green light. ‘Flo’ will then rise from the light and turn into a girl, as she floats towards your car, mistaking you for the ride she missed.
Egyptian Theater
Since its renovation in 1997, sightings of a 12-year-old girl named Allison have been reported. Allison is said to have died after falling from scaffolding when she came to bring her father, a construction worker, lunch. She has shoulder length hair and is often seen near the stairs leading up to the private boxes. Sometimes she sits next to a member of the audience; other times she can be seen playing the piano.
Bellshire Hospital
In the late 1960s this building was a mental hospital where the head doctor tortured his patients. People claim to have seen a girl from the stairs and faces have been seen in the window when the building was supposed to be empty. In 2006 it was turned into a haunted house called Lazarus’ Maze which ran for five years until it was closed in 2011.
