Let’s face it—beginning any kind of study at a new school can be an overwhelming experience. I’ve been studying at Weber State for nearly two years and still find buildings that I didn’t know existed. For that reason, here’s a list of some of the buildings of WSU that you’ll become familiar with if you are new to campus and a refresher for those who are coming back.
Shepherd Union
The union building is the heart of campus. Many of the most popular services on campus are located here, including the bookstore, cafeteria, places to study, the testing center and, last but certainly not least, The Signpost. Shepherd Union hours are Monday through Saturday 6:30 a.m. to midnight and Sunday: 1-9 p.m.
Val A. Browning Center for the Performing Arts
The Browning Center is the cultural hub of campus. Here, you will find three performance spaces, rehearsal rooms and classroom spaces for the performing arts. Hours vary depending on the day.
The Ethel Wattis Kimball Visual Arts Center
The Kimball Arts Center is where you will find classroom and studio space for the Department of Visual Arts, including photography, graphic design and art history, just to name a few. The Kimball Arts Center also houses the Mary Elizabeth Dee Shaw Gallery, which houses art displays from around the world. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday 11 a.m.–5 p.m. and Saturday noon to 5 p.m.
Stewart Library
Study space, special collections, Studio 76 and books, books, books—the Stewart Library is the perfect spot to work on a research paper, study video and television production or to find a quiet spot and relax after a long day of classes.
Lind Lecture Hall and Science Lab Building
The Lind Lecture Hall and Science Lab building are the headquarters for the Center for Science & Math Education. Services offered here are science teaching advising, and a variety of scientific supplies can be checked out by faculty and students. Math and science tutors can also be found in the Science Lab building’s 2nd floor common room and testing center.
David O. McKay Education Building
Here, you will find the College of Education, including Child and Family Studies, Athletic Training & Nutrition and Master of Education classrooms. Also located here is the Melba S. Lehner Children’s School, which provides quality child care and education to children in surrounding areas.
Student Services Center
The Student Services Center houses many of the important services on campus, including the Financial Aid and Scholarship Office, Career Services Center and Admissions Office.
The Wattis Business Building
The Wattis Building is the headquarters for students seeking to pursue degrees in business and economics. Many of the classes taught in this building include accounting, business administration and small business development.
Social Science building
The Social Science building is where you will go if you are planning on studying criminal justice, history, psychology and all other departments in the College of Social & Behavioral Sciences. If you take classes in any of these fields, they’re likely to be taught in this building. There’s also a testing center and computer lab in the basement.
Elizabeth Hall
If you are planning to pursue a degree in English, communication, linguistics or network technology and business multimedia, then Elizabeth Hall is where you will find most of your classrooms and professors. On the main floor, the Writing Center has peer tutors to help with writing assignments for all majors. If you’re into reading, there’s a free book exchange on the north end of the fourth floor.
