The Wildcat Tech Expo is coming up and will be jam-packed with enough technology and vendors to satisfy even the pickiest of people.
The Wildcat Tech Expo is put on by the Weber State Campus Store and the Weber State IT Division. The event will be held on Sept. 24th in the Shepherd Union building. The event will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., which will give most people a pretty wide window to be able to come and enjoy all that the expo will have to offer.
The event will feature vendors, courses and booths from Apple, Adobe, GoPro, Microsoft and Wacom. The Wildcat Tech Expo has been going since 2008 and each year offers vendors a chance to connect with students, faculty and staff at Weber State University and the community as a whole.
A highlight of the expo will be keynote speaker, Shaun McBride, who is among the first viral stars from the popular application Snapchat. Unlike Vine and Instagram, Snapchat wasn’t created to be a massive sharing platform. Snapchat was designed primarily for friends and family to share photos and/or videos that would self-destruct within 10 seconds of being opened and does not allow the recipient to save the content.
McBride is a sales rep for a snowboarding company and has worked with companies such as Disney and Taco Bell, using Snapchat as a form of advertising. Disney flew McBride to Disneyland to launch their Snapchat account which was McBride’s first paid Snapchat gig.
In an interview with Mashable, McBride was asked about his creative process and responded, “A lot of times I try and do things that are ironic or realistic with a touch of unrealistic. If you are stressing about creating something funny, you just force it, and I’ve had a couple of snaps that I just didn’t like because I was trying too hard.”
McBride will be speaking at 9:30 a.m. during the Wildcat Tech Expo.
In addition to vendors featuring technology there will also be several introductory courses offered during the Tech Expo covering topics such as gmail, podcasting, iTunes and Google Drive. These courses can be helpful for those wanting to use these programs and applications smarter.
Courses will also be offered in Excel, Powerpoint, Word and OneNote and will focus on giving students, faculty and staff tips for improving the efficiency and performance of these programs. Apple will be featuring a vendor that will illustrate the accessibility features that Apple’s iOS has to offer – including the new iOS 8.
