The Weber State University football team came just short of its first comeback win of the year, losing 27-21 to Southern Utah University. The game dropped the Wildcats to 1-9 on the season.
The Wildcats’ offense got off to a quick start, jumping out to an early 7-0 lead. Quarterback Austin Chipoletti started out hot, completing nine of his first 10 passes, including a 31-yard touchdown to receiver Cameron Livingston.
The Wildcats seemed to lose their discipline in the second quarter, and it continued throughout the third quarter. The Wildcats had nine penalties for 99 yards in the second and third quarters, including four personal foul penalties, giving the Thunderbirds multiple opportunities in the red zone. Going into the fourth quarter, SUU had a 17-7 lead.
Things didn’t get any better for the Wildcats as SUU added another touchdown the stretch. The Wildcats went on two quick touchdown drives, but were unable to recover the onside kick, letting SUU run out the clock. The final score was 27-21, the ninth-straight loss for WSU.
