The Weber State University women’s basketball team won its only preseason game of the year in a blowout victory over the weekend.
The Wildcats hosted the Concordia University Cavaliers on Saturday night. WSU built a big lead and came away with a 78-48 win.
WSU was led by sophomore guard Carlee Lough, who finished with 14 points and four rebounds, going 6-for-13 from the field. WSU had two other players finish in double figures: Kalie Matthews and Laura Palmere had 11 points in the win.
Desiree Ramos and Regina Okoye both had nine points in the game. Ramos’ shooting ability was on display, with all nine of her points coming on 3-pointers. Matthews and Jalen Carpenter dominated the paint for WSU, each finishing with 12 rebounds in the game.
The team as a whole had a strong game in rebounding and finished with 56 rebounds, as opposed to 38 for the Cavaliers. The Wildcats shot 41.9 percent in the game from the field and 50 percent from 3-point range, going 7-for-14 from behind the arc.
The WSU bench scored 30 points in the game.
The Wildcats will be back in action again on Monday night at the Dee Events Center at 6 p.m. against Adams State University.
