Weber State University’s Ogden campus is filled with services designed for academic success, and students can find nearly all of the same benefits at the Davis campus.
WSU’s Davis campus is located in northern Layton, just off Highway 193 and Interstate 15. Because 41 percent of students attending WSU live in Davis county, another nine percent in Salt Lake County, this location is closer to home for much of the university’s population.
“We have continued to expand our efforts to bring the university to the students by opening the Farmington center, as well as increase services offered at Davis,” Campus Dean Bruce Davis said.
The Davis campus provides Wildcats with a community college experience with the benefits of a full university, said Assistant Dean of Students Jenifer Grandi. “There are a lot of services at Davis that students might not know about.”
The campus offers free fitness classes, computer labs, a testing center with extended hours, tutoring, peer mentoring, a math hub and advising, to name just a few of the amenities.
An approximate 22:1 student-to-staff ratio at Davis provides a friendly college experience, according to Grandi. Most classes have an enrollment of around only 30 students.
“One thing I’ve always liked about Davis is it’s a smaller, friendlier, more intimate and accessible learning environment,” Davis said. “Ogden campus can be pretty intimidating. Davis campus still has that small campus feel where everyone can get to know each other.”
Each classroom is furnished with height-adjustable swivel chairs and full-sized tables, instead of the smaller armchair desks found in many Ogden campus classrooms, which maximizes student comfort, according to Davis, allowing them to study better.
“We do offer good-sized classrooms, so you have room to spread out a little bit.” Davis said.
Current Student Involved Leadership Vice President Haley Tomney said getting from one class to another is easy, considering the campus’s relatively small size. She believes the campus will help incoming students have an easier transition into college.
“We have better parking. We have access to all the resources. We have one of the biggest testing centers at Weber. Everything on Ogden campus we offer here, and it’s probably closer to the student’s house,” Tomney said. “That’s why Davis is so awesome.”
Davis welcomes all Wildcats to the Davis campus to utilize their services, whether they are presently taking a course on the Davis campus or not.
“We try to nurture our students the best we can,” Davis said. “Most of all, we want them to know we’re here. We are here, and we are here for you.”
