Ten Weber State University students had the chance to win $500 at this year’s Weber’s Got Talent.

In an evening of talents ranging from tap dancing to stand-up comedy, the first place winner won $500, second won $300 and third took home $200.

Auditions for the show were held three weeks prior, to determine the top-ten performers.

Contestants at the show spoke about how they began their crafts, be it a hobby picked up at a young age or developing a partnership with another performer.

For contestant Marin Tarbox, winning wasn’t her primary goal. She chose to sing “I’m here,” a song from the musical “The Color Purple.”

“The words mean a lot. Within the last year, a lot has happened. I’ve had a few friends who have passed away from suicide or just random death, and when I sing songs like that, it makes me feel like maybe they can still hear me,” she said.

The show also included the final results of WSUSA’s election from earlier in the week, one winner announced after each performer.

In addition, Weber’s Got Talent included the audience participation in Minute-to-Win-It games, such as doughnut-eating contests and Disney-themed Taboo, which were played after each election result was announced.

The results of the WSUSA elections were McKell Costley for Davis Campus VP, Parker Hughes for Legislative VP, Jessica Cairo for Clubs and Organizations, Mackenzie Stokes for Leadership VP, Hailey Harris for Service VP, Slim Ben Khalifia for Diversity and Unity VP and Aulola Moli for Student Body President.

At the end of the night, the three judges made their final decision: Marin Tarbax came in third for singing, Indie Blanco won second for his stand up comedy and singing duo Tim Isom and Lauren Wilko won first place.

Even for first-place winner Isom, winning wasn’t that important. When he first discovered the song he and Wilko performed, he said, “The song spoke to me. I said I’ve got to do this song some place, some time, with someone.”
