Living the college student life can be rough on the wallet. After tuition, room and board are paid, there might be little left for an entertainment budget. Here are three ways to enjoy some of the most frugal off-campus entertainment options Ogden has to offer.
WiseGuys
Located on Ogden’s Historic 25th Street, Wiseguys Comedy Club is the perfect place for a cheap laugh. With a roster of comedians ranging from clean to crude, there’s always a great choice for everyone. Wiseguys showcases some of Utah’s finest homegrown comedians including Guy Seidel and Last Comic Standing finalist Marcus. Shows range from $10 to $25 per person, but they often offer two discounted deals. Wednesdays are open mic nights and are only $5 per person. Wiseguys serves a wide range of food and drinks.
Moviegrille
Tucked away just a block west of Ogden Junction, Moviegrille is a cinema experience unlike any other. The food menu is likened to a casual restaurant, complete with burgers, salads and artisan pizzas. Moviegrille is more of a restaurant inside a movie theater. Servers take your order before the movie begins and bring it right to your seat when it’s ready. Offering cozy reclining seats and an intimate theater setting, it’s almost hard to believe the $4 regular price of admission.
Ogden Unplugged
Looking for a place to relax and enjoy some good local music? Head over to Lighthouse Lounge on Ogden’s Historic 25th Street. Every Thursday night, the Ogden Unplugged series showcases the acoustic styling of local artists from all over Utah. All shows begin with an open mic night starting at 7 p.m., with the main show starting at 9. Host Jon Turner said, “Ogden Unplugged is a great opportunity to showcase local talent.” You must be 21 or older to enter.
Derrick has been an arts and entertainment reporter for 2 years. He has the inside scoop on a lot of events in Ogden and Salt Lake. He is always in contact with local businesses, bands and other groups. He’s even worked with big stars for his articles like the singer from the band Everclear and a member of Twiztid.
