Runners, bikers and swimmers braved the crisp, cold morning air on Saturday to compete in the 11th Annual Turkey Triathlon and 5k Turkey Trot.
The race, which began and ended at the Swenson Gym, consisted of a 5k run, 10k bike race and 300-yd swim. Runners were cheered on by spectators who lined Village Drive.
It was an eye-opening experience to witness first hand the dedication that it takes to push through the feeling of your legs falling asleep and your lungs collapsing inside your chest.
I admire those who finished the race—and even those who couldn’t finish because it takes courage to even sign up.
It was amazing to see strangers encouraging others to finish the race.
“You’re so close to finishing! You got this!” was heard more than once throughout the race.
Weber State University sponsors the event each year in hopes to give runners the opportunity to practice for future triathlons they might want to participate in.
