As Halloween approaches, many wanna-be ghost hunters come out to do investigations. Whether you are a believer in the paranormal or not, there are plenty of haunted locations within twenty miles of Weber State waiting to be investigated.
From Ogden’s Historical 25th Street to Salt Lake City, you can stop by many locations that are rumored to have spooky encounters. The Union Station, one of the oldest railroads in the West, as well as the 25th Street underground tunnels, have claimed many souls since the 1800’s. The Ben Lomond Hotel in downtown Ogden does not have a thirteenth floor because the builders were superstitious of the suspicious activity that had taken place in the past.
Even Weber State has its dark history. In 1993, a man in the Student Senate Room pulled a .22 handgun and open fired. The man was then shot by the campus police officer. Many late night Weber State workers have reported the feeling of uneasiness and instances of paranormal activity.
Gravity Hill in Salt Lake City is an attention grabber for those seeking a paranormal thrill. Legend has it that an a man was killed on the overpass, and to this day, if you put your car in neutral while facing down the hill, the old man will drag your car back up the hill. Jacob Moritz “Emo” and Lilly are two other souls you shouldn’t mess with. They haunt the Salt Lake City Cemetery, looking to frighten those who enter at night. Lastly, if you’re planning on staying at the Shilo Inn downtown, you better think again, or you may not check out the next day.

Many years ago, a couple had an argument that ended with gunshots in the Weber State Social Science Building. To this day, around 1:30 p.m., students have reported hearing sounds of screams and gunshots.
