My father is from Nebraska, so maybe it’s the Cornhusker blood that flows through me or just something one has to experience each year, but I absolutely love going to corn mazes when the leaves change colors and the air turns crisp.
There is just something about walking through tall stalks of corn trying to find your way out that draws you in, whether it is the beauty or the appreciation when you realize that farmers spend months and months preparing.
But the best part is being in the middle of nowhere, where the city lights can’t reach the sky and you can enjoy yourself under the moon and stars.
Located in Syracuse, Black Island Farms boasts 26 acres of corn mazes and other haunted areas. Established in 1960, the farm has put on the Harvest Festival—including the corn maze—for the last 10 years, and it’s one of Utah’s largest mazes.
Black Island Farms offers outdoor hay bales and slides for kids (or adults) to play on and also houses numerous goats and cows.
The farm is also home to a haunted walk-through, where ghosts, goblins and masked chainsaw-wielding men chase after you as you try to keep up with your group.
So, whether you enjoy taking a break and having a nice relaxing day outside or you are ready to lose your voice from screaming at the top of your lungs, Black Island Farms is the place for you.
