The crowd fell silent as Weber State University’s Army ROTC choir and color guard performed the national anthem during the Jazz vs. Lakers game on Wednesday night. The ROTC choir and color guard have been practicing for months in preparation for the event.
The Army ROTC choir and color guard have previously performed and rendered arms at numerous sporting events including the Utah Grizzlies match.
After arriving at the Energy Solutions Arena, the color guard began practicing the walk out to the court, making sure that every step and turn was in unison. In the meantime, the choir was busy trying to hit the correct notes, rehearsing “The Star-Spangled Banner” adjacent to the Jazz dance team practicing their routine nearby.
When it was finally time for the choir and color guard to perform at this nationally televised event, members were busy in the dressing rooms assembling parts of their uniforms, double-checking that every single detail was exact and straight.
As the color guard, bayonets and flags in hand, made its way to render honors by maneuvering the counter march to center court, the crowd erupted in cheers. As the choir began to sing, all was silent throughout the stadium. The choir gave an outstanding performance; every note was sung to the best of their ability. Following the anthem, the color guard proceeded to exit the arena in unity.
