While there might not be snow on the ground and Thanksgiving turkeys haven’t even been cooked yet, that doesn’t mean students can’t start getting into the Christmas spirit. One way students can do that is by attending Christmas-themed performances. Here’s just a few of the fun and affordable Christmas-themed activities going on this holiday season.
“It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play”
The Ziegfeld Theater, located on the corner of Washington Boulevard and 40th Street, is known for its hilarious comedies and heartwarming musicals. This Christmas season, Nov. 28 through Dec. 22, they will be performing “It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play.”
The 1946 classic film about family, love and what life really means has been reimagined into a live radio show broadcast. Featuring a live choir, certain performances feature local high school madrigal and chamber choirs, The Ziegfeld’s rendition of “It’s a Wonderful Life” will definitely not be something students want to miss.

“Scrooge: A Christmas Carol”
No Christmas season is complete without Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol.” With script by Beverly Olsen and Jacci Florence, actors at Beverly’s Terrace Plaza Playhouse will re-enact the story of Ebenezer Scrooge and his transformation thanks to a visit from three ghosts. Originally a social criticism on greed, “A Christmas Carol” has become nearly synonymous with lessons on kindness and charity, especially around Christmastime.
Performed Nov. 28 through Dec. 23, Beverly’s Terrace Plaza Playhouse’s interpretation of “Scrooge: A Christmas Carol” is the perfect opportunity to spend time with loved ones and remember what the holidays are really about.

“The Nutcracker”
For many ballet fans and aspiring young ballerinas, Tchaikovsky’s score for “The Nutcracker” is almost synonymous with Christmastime. The Val A. Browning Center for the Performing Arts on Weber State University’s Ogden campus plays host to two performances of the beloved ballet each year, the first being Clytie Adams’ private studio production and the second being Ballet West’s professional production of the Russian masterpiece.
Adapted from E.T.A Hoffmann’s story “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King,” Ballet West has been performing “The Nutcracker” for nearly 60 years. The Clytie Adams School of Ballet has been teaching young ballerinas to dance for just over 50 years, and many of those years have featured performances of “The Nutcracker.”
Clytie Adams is performing Nov. 20 through 22 at 7:30 p.m. with an 11 a.m. matinee on the 22. Ballet West will be performing Nov. 28 and 29 with a 2 p.m. matinee on the 29.
Students can receive two tickets for $10, more than half off the normal ticket price, when they present their student ID at the ticket window for the Ballet West performances of “The Nutcracker.” Students can also receive additional discounts when they join Allegro!, the Ogden Symphony Ballet Association’s student organization.
