In light of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Hispanic Heritage Month, the Weber State Center for Diversity and Unity has their work cut out for them.
Dedicated to bringing cultural competence to campus, the CDU celebrates the diversity, culture and history of every member of the Wildcat community.
Located at the heart of the Shepherd Union Building, here is what the Weber State CDU has to offer in the upcoming weeks:
- Film screening of Cesar Chavez.
With Hispanic Heritage Month coming to a close on Oct. 15, what better way to honor the final week than to celebrate one of history’s most dynamic Hispanic-American activists, Cesar Chavez?
To bring light to this often-overlooked civil rights advocate, the CDU will host a film screening in the Union Wildcat Theater Oct. 14 at 5:30 p.m. A discussion will be held afterwards led by Jeff Richey, assistant professor of history, who will share how Cesar Chavez impacted the Latino community.
- Stop the Hate: What do you really know about AIDS?
The Stop the Hate panel series is dedicated to addressing misconceptions surrounding common topics, usually focusing on topics that most people like to avoid. This month’s Stop the Hate presentation will tackle the issue of AIDS and the stigmas surrounding it.
Held in the Shepherd Union room 232 Oct. 29 at 11:30 a.m., anyone is welcome to participate!
- The Martin Luther King Jr. Vision.
“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter,” said Martin Luther King Jr.
With this quote outlining the presentation, the CDU will promote another profound civil rights advocate Martin Luther King Jr. on Nov. 5. at 3:30 p.m.
This presentation will focus on Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision and encourage students to get involved with non-profit organizations in their community. The meeting will last an hour and will be held in Shepherd Union room 232.
