The Weber State University men’s basketball team will play Oral Roberts University on Feb. 23 in the ESPN Ramada Bracketbusters game.
The Wildcats are currently 15-4 on the season and 10-2 in conference play. This is the seventh-straight year that WSU has won 10 conference games.
ORU currently has a record of 14-8 and has a 9-1 record in Southland Conference games. It is currently tied at the top of conference standings. The Golden Eagles are led by senior Warren Niles, who is 23rd in the nation in scoring with 19.2 points per game.
The Golden Eagles are coached by Scott Sutton, who is in his 12th season as ORU’s head coach. He is the son of famed college basketball coach Eddie Sutton.
This will be the fifth time the two schools have played against each other. The record is tied currently at 2-2. The first meeting came in December of 1973. ORU took the win and then beat WSU again the following season in Ogden.
WSU’s first win against the Golden Eagles came in 1976 in Ogden. The last meeting between the schools was in December 1991. The Wildcats have a 4-5 record against teams from the Southland Conference.
This is the final year of the Bracketbusters games and the fourth season WSU has participated in the games. WSU lost its first two games in the Bracketbusters in 2005 and 2011. Last season, the Wildcats defeated the University of Texas at Arlington 72-70 in Ogden.
The matchups for 122 teams participating in the Bracketbusters were announced on Monday. WSU’s game against ORU will not be televised.
