Weber State University students organized a walk-out of classes at noon on Feb. 17, in protest against Immigration and Customs Enforcement presence. According to a post uploaded by Weber State University Human Rights club in association with the College Democrats at Weber State University, the event was organized in solidarity with Ogden’s immigrant community.
In a joint statement posted by both organizations, they stated, “The Weber State University Human Rights Club and the Weber State College Democrats stand in firm opposition to the ongoing violence, intimidation and targeted harm inflicted on immigrant communities and their allies through immigration enforcement.”
Despite the cold and snow earlier in the day, students came together on the lacrosse field holding handmade protest signs with phrases against ICE. Gathered students were chanting and hearing out speakers from both organizations behind the event, before marching alongside Harrison Boulevard and back up to the Clocktower Plaza.
